AMO's Winter Wonderland Party

Our Mommy group just turned ONE last Saturday.  Sure we've had mini play dates before, a few mommy meetups and a lot of first birthdays attended but this is the first time that the entire group got together to celebrate one year of friendship.

Avenue for Mommies Online (AMO) started as a small group of mommies supporting each other in our journey through motherhood.  The only thing that changed is our size.  From a measly group of at least 20 members, we grew into a community of 70 mommies all over the Philippines.  We are a group of working moms, army wives, stay-at-home moms, work-at-home moms, full time moms and bloggers.  So it is very exciting (and challenging) to bring everyone together.

The party that started with a brainstorming, a lot of support, a whole lotta love and a combination of all mommy powers materialized into one great event - the AMO Winter Wonderland Party.

Party Tarp courtesy of Mommy Ron.
See those snowflakes? Lovingly made by artists Mommy Mona, Mommy Desiree and Mommy Edel.
Registration Ladies - Mommies Sherrybe and Mommy Mae.

Aside from the beautiful snowflakes suspended from the ceiling, one could not help but notice the Mommy Loots and the Raffle Prizes from our AMO moms and beloved Sponsors.

More Loots

Of course, no party would be exciting without the games. There were games prepared for the Mommies, Daddies and the Kids.

I-Shoot Mo baby!
The Kids playing Rabbit, Wall, Gun.
See the Sexy Party Host? That's Mommy Lolly.
Mommies...arrange yourselves according to....
Everyone went home with loots and prizes from the games and the raffle.  Our mommy group has been blessed with so many generous sponsors.

Proud Winners of Aprica Colan worth Php 7,000 - Mommy Liv and Mommy Angel
with Ms. Rechelle, the Aprica, Avent and Good Representative
Winners of Smart Steps and Bite Block Goodies (with Hope, Smart Steps Brand Assisant)
Winners of Drypers loot

This party would not have been possible if not for the organizers who spend time in planning the activity.  And to our generous sponsors:

A Big THANK YOU for your trust and your blessings.  We will continue to support your activities and your products because we believe in them.

Slippers, slippers and more slippers for the children of Negros.

To my AMO family, Thank you for your gift of friendship.  We have a lot to look forward to in the future.  A lot of plans and more activities.  But for now, we will be sending off more than 30 dozen slippers to the Children of Negros.  After all, this is what the party is all about -- sharing.

Happy AMO moms and kids (thank you AMO daddies for taking our picture)

Our Mommy Mundo Weekend

Last Sunday, my family and I went to the Mommy Mundo Bazaar.  We have been attending several of their activities and this is one Bazaar that I just couldn't miss.  Aside from the Christmas shopping that I want to finish before December, I was also looking forward to getting my first Mom Planner.  My Dear Husband surprised me by paying for my Mommy Mundo Passport Card before the 15th of November and with that I earned my free Planner and an entrance to ALL Mommy Mundo Events. (Isn't he sweet?)

Mine at Last!

As expected, there were a lot, and I mean a LOT of great buys.  I also saw familiar booths like Mommy Treats, Tiny Buds, Cycles and Cradle and Bug & Kelly.

Look at these cool bracelets.  I love them.
Got another shirt for my son at Bug & Kelly.  That's Kelly right there.
With Paola of Mommy Treats.  She made those yummy Chocolate Lactation spoons.

What I love about Mommy Mundo events is that they provide a breastfeeding area for the nursing moms.  When my toddler asked to be nursed, I thought this is the best time to check out the space.  The area was covered by curtains to create privacy and there were couches for the moms.  I just find it a little funny when me and my son entered the area and you see the babies nursing peacefully.  And then there I was with my noisy toddler in tow who's singing "Mommy Mommy Milk. Yummy Mommy milk" while waiting for me to settle down.

Bringing a toddler into these kinds of events can be a quite a challenge.  They run around.  They get cranky.  They get impatient.  Thanks to the play area provided by the organizers.  My son had a blast playing while I finish my shopping.

My son preoccupied with the games outside the tent.

Congratulations Mommy Mundo for another great event!

Touch and Feel 1-2-3 Book Review

My husband and I are working on teaching our son how to identify the numbers and how to count.  Unfortunately, the flashcards didn't work the same way it did with my daughter years ago.  We already bought three sets of flashcards but it somehow end up either torn or lost. Good thing we discovered the book published by Dorling Kindersley on one of our trips to Booksale.

Touch and Feel 1-2-3 is a tactile book that teaches counting and numbers, recommended for ages 1-5 years old.  It has vibrant picturesand colors will catch your children's eyes.  What makes it more interesting are the different textures that are introduced in the book.

I knew I found the right book when I saw the delight in my son's eyes.  Learning became more fun for him as we count the fishes and the cars and the snakes. He couldn't resist touching the "rough" sandcastles and the "sticky" cherries while counting them. We also used the same book to teach him about some of the colors.  Since we bought the book, he could easily identify numbers 1 to 10.  He is able to associate the texture to other things at home like the scotch tape.  He calls it "sticky."  Because this is a board book, I don't have to worry about it being torn.

Touch and Feel 1-2-3 is just one of the best-selling touch and feel series published by Dorling Kindersley.  Some of the books in the series are Touch and Feel ABC, Touch and Feel Shapes and Touch and Feel Animal Colors.  They are great books to introduce your toddlers to early-learning subjects like counting and the alphabets.

A Peek Into Our Nappy Bag

One of the things that I love about breastfeeding is that I don't have to bring that much stuff when we leave the house.   So I invite you to take a peek at our diaper bag.

Bringing just the "essentials."
I only have less than 10 items in the bag:

Drypers Diapers (I only use Cloth diapers when we're at home.)
Baby Wipes
Tiny Buds Hand Sanitizer
Tiny Buds Baby Powder
Avent Straw Cup
Face Towel
Extra Shirt and Shorts

Even my 10-year old daughter can pack this, don't you think?  What about you? What's in your diaper bag?

Havaianas Pays it Forward with Design a Smile 2 for the Benefit of Operation Smile

When was the last time you made someone else smile? That is the question Havaianas asks you as it launches the Havaianas Design a Smile 2, a flip-flops design contest for the benefit of Operation Smile Philippines.

First launched in 2010, Havaianas Design a Smile gives children the chance to show their artistic talents by designing the next Havaianas Smile pair – a special design which will be produced into an actual Havaianas pair. A percentage of the sales will be donated to Operation Smile Philippines, a non-profit organization which provides life-changing surgeries to children with cleft lips and cleft palates. The initial run generated more than 2,000 entries and raised more than PHP 100,000 from donations alone during this period.

“Havaianas believes that summer is a state of mind and can be lived every day of the year whenever you adopt a happy and carefree attitude,“ shares Anne Gonzalez, Managing Director of Havaianas Philippines. “And nowhere else is that more evident than in children. With Havaianas Design a Smile, we hope to generate funds and awareness to support Operation Smile in our shared mission to spread smiles all over the world.”

This November to January, Havaianas Design a Smile 2 is back, with the theme “Paying it Forward: Kids Helping Kids.” Beginning November 24th, artistically inclined kids can join Havaianas Design a Smile by submitting their designs illustrating their answer to the question “What will you do to make other people smile?” at partner events nationwide, beginning with the Bonifacio Global City Passion Fest at Bonifacio High Street from November 23 to 25, and at the Mommy Mundo Bazaar at the Rockwell Tent from November 24 to 25. Winners will receive exciting prizes from Havaianas, Bobble, Pininho, Hobbes and Landes, McDonald’s, and Sony. The grand prize winner will also have his or her design produced as part of the Havaianas 2014 Collection as the Havaianas Smile pair, with a percentage of the sales from which will help fund the operations of Operation Smile.

“The response from our initial run was overwhelming,” says Ammiel de Leon, Group Director, “this year, we hope to enrich our partnership with Operation Smile even more and involve more people all over the Philippines in Havaianas and Operation Smile’s advocacy to give children their smiles.”

"Ala Peanut Butter Sandwiches"

My son loves peanut butter.  He calls it "peanut button." I have no idea how it became a peanut button to him but nevertheless, it is one food that he couldn't seem to get enough of.  He eats peanut butter sandwich, crackers dipped in peanut butter or gets a spoonful of peanut butter, sit in one corner and devour it.

(Source)
FACT!
A tablespoon of peanut butter has about 90 calories, 9 g fat - 80% of the fat are mono and poly-unsaturated, 4g protein and 1 g fiber.  Limit yourselves to two tablespoons of peanut butter as a general guideline.

Peanut butter is a healthy snack for toddlers just as long as they are not allergic to peanuts.   It is rich in protein and fiber; and a great source of iron, zince, folate, vitamin B6 and riboflavin.  The protein in peanut butter provides the energy and the fiber helps regulate one's bowel movement.  It is also because of fiber that they feel "full" after eating.

A FUN SNACK
Try adding bananas on your kid's peanut butter sandwich for added nutrition.  Bananas are rich in potassium, vitamin B6, vitamin C and magnesium.  It is also a good source of riboflavin, folate, niacine, thiamin, iron, vitamin A and phosporus.

For another healthy snack, use peanut butter as a dip.  Arrange bite size portion of crackers, apples, bananas or baby carrots on a plate and serve it with a juice or water.

Mommy Treats Chocolate Lactation Spoon

I first knew about Mommy Treats exactly two years ago when I was struggling with my milk supply.  I’m not exactly a person who likes soup all the time so I ended up popping pills – malunggay pills.  Then I got introduced to this yummy treats with galactagogues (like fenugreek, brewers yeast and oat)  as ingredients and I got hooked ever since.

Now, another yummy treat was created and launched by yummy mommy Paola Loot, the beauty and brains behind Mommy Treats.  It is called the Chocolate Lactation Spoon.  The treat is a small block of chocolate that is stuck to a wooden spoon.  Just like the rest of the treats, it contains galactagogues that helps lactating moms in increasing their milk supply.  It comes in three variants – plain chocolate, chocolate with marshmallows and peppermint chocolate.  When I heard peppermint chocolate, I didn't waste any time.  I immediately placed my order.

I didn't have to worry about how effective it is because I have ordered Lactation Brownies in the past.  Aside from it being yummy, it is very effective,  In my world where I have to attend several business reviews and having to work at night, I just made sure that I have my Mommy Treats with me so my milk supply will not dip.  My milk looks creamier too when I ate the Brownies.

They're here! Lactation Brownies and Chocolate spoons individually wrapped. And a letter from Paola.

Don't you just love the little hearts? I do!

What I like about mommy treats is that it is wrapped based on the recommended daily serving.  Each chocolate spoon too is individually wrapped.  I also noticed that the peppermint chocolate have little hearts on top which is just lovely.  I unwrapped my first treat and started nibbling.  On my first bite, I can already taste the mint which is heavenly.  (Can you tell that I love mint on my chocolates?)  I kept telling myself that I should leave some to disolve in the water because this was meant to be drank not eaten but I couldn’t resist.  I ended up eating half and disolving half in hot water.  The chocolate drink was great but I enjoyed it better when I’m nibbling it.

Get your treats now at Mommy Treats.  Visit their website or like them on Facebook.

Early Christmas Shopping at the Baby Carnival

I am trying to finish my Christmas shopping early that's why when I was invited by Jade Dolor Munoz to the Baby Carnival at the Parkside of the Filipinas Heritage Library, I happily obliged.  I know I'd find great deals there and I know my kids will enjoy the activities.

It was unfortunate that my son and daughter fell asleep late in the afternoon and thanks to my midshift, we arrived at the place really late.  Too late that we probably have missed the flurry of events earlier that day.  (Boo me!)

Booths with individual tents.

Play Area for the kids which I'm sure my son would enjoy had he been there.

Yummy Cupcakes
Still me and dear hubby went and check out the different booths.  Despite arriving there late, we still manage to bring home stuff for the kids and meet a couple of online sellers.  My husband was so fascinated by the shirts by Bug & Kelly that we had to buy a couple for my son and daughter.  He's took a trip to memory lane when he saw the prints. LOL.  I was also glad to have met Mommy Melai who, like me is a Cloth diapering mommy (although we still use disposables when we leave home and she, at night).  I bought an Alva and Babyland diaper from her (Fashionbaby) to add to my CD stash.   And who could resist the cupcakes by Ciocolato.  The cupcakes were practically smiling at me that we had to take it home.

CDs from Fashion baby and Shirt by Bug & Kelly
Believe me, I already made a mental note to myself to arrive a little early next time.

Thanks Jade. 'Till the next event!
