Tagging the two kids along, we took a trip to the nearest dentist. It was our first time at the AV Dental Alley at the Pasay City Mall but I was already at ease with the doctor which is a great sign. My daughter had an oral prophylaxis and the doctor allowed my son to
watch the procedure (another great sign!). I took the opportunity to introduce my son to the dentist and what she does.
Kudos to Ate for setting a great example. |
Now it was my turn. An x-ray was performed and revealed that my tooth could no longer be saved (booo!!!). The dental carries are eating my tooth from the inside so it has to be extracted.
Remembering Mariel and Tina from the Homeschooling seminar, I took my tooth home. I pulled my daughter aside and asked about what she observed when Mama had a toothache. Showing her the tooth, we covered a lot of topic that revolve around dental carries, dental hygiene, our teeth and her experiences with the dentist. I hope I was able to drive my point home.
So yesterday I accomplished a LOT:
- I had my tooth extracted.
- My daughter had her teeth cleaned.
- My son knows who the dentist is and what she does.
- I used my extracted tooth as a visual aid in teaching my daughter on dental hygiene.
- I learned that an anesthesia can be requested when the pain during
- dental filling becomes unbearable.
- I found a great dentist. (YAY!)
It is amazing how you turned such misery (hihi) to a learning lesson for your kids :)
ReplyDeleteI had to turn things around after she saw me in pain last week. lol
DeleteI always fear going to dentist. This is way back when I was just 6 and had a very painful experience with a dentist. Hope I can overcome it since I already have a son who I should bring to a dentist one of these days.

Me too mommy Maye. I had a bad experience with my first dentist that's why it takes time before i warm up to one. i got lucky this time.
Deletelucky you to have found a good dentist, your post remind me that i need to visit my dentist soon..
ReplyDeletethanks. now that i found "the one" im going back to her clinic for a few more visits -- cleaning, filling and all that jazz.
Deleteit hurts, i know the feeling.. i had my wisdom tooth removed all of them. gad. the pain and my face it's swollen. but now i dont have any problem. :)
ReplyDeletei no longer want another "incident." if i will rate the pain from 1 - 10, i'll give it 11. hahah
DeleteNext time you need dental care, let me know! My family has a clinic in Greenhills, San Juan.
ReplyDeletethanks for offering sis. medyo malayo lang kasi ang san juan. if we were nearer, we'd probably go there. :)
Deletethanks to this post, it reminded me that I need to visit my dentist asap. :-)
ReplyDeletego go go girl. you don't want to go through this.
DeleteThis reminds me that I have to visit my dentist this month for my brace adjustment. :)
ReplyDeletehaving the braces adjusted can be uncomfortable sometimes. i used to eat just noodles and congee right after. pero the next day. naku lamon na. lol
Deletei fear dentist, when i was young i had a negative experience when my tooth was extracted...na-trauma yata ako hahaha
ReplyDeleteI have 2 teeth that I think subjected for extraction. :( poor me.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fruitful day u have! Am also glad that we finally found a dentist.
ReplyDeleteMy brother is a dentist, although, he is in Cebu. I feel lucky to know a dentist! You have to know if they are good
ReplyDeleteToothaches are really excruciating. I guess it's the proximity with the brain also. Pain registers quickly and intensely. I know I couldn't sleep off such pain. It's good that you were able to accomplish a lot with a single trip to the dentist. :-)
ReplyDeleteGood work, mommy! :) You've set yourself as an example, too, so that your kids would know the value of dental hygiene.
ReplyDeleteQuick thinking on your part to use the trip to the dentist as a learning experience for your son. Good job!
ReplyDeleteI am due to visit my dentist too. I have not had my teeth cleaned for years now. oh my!
I hated dentists when I was young. Perhaps if my Mom was just like you, I won't have any fears of visiting my dentist then.
ReplyDeleteThis reminds me that the kids and I are due for a dental check up. The last one we had was in June. Fortunately, visits to the dentists have always been fun for my kids.
ReplyDeleteTyna, I read an article saying that once we reach 30's our teeth are really prone to deteriorate...Anyhow, congrats on what you have accomplished there in the dental clinic :)
ReplyDeleteFantastic! Buti the dentist was accommodating. Hopefully she made a good mark on your son para hindi sya matakot when it's his turn to visit naman. Galing din how you used the experience to educate your daughter. :)
ReplyDeleteGood for you sis.
ReplyDeleteMy daughter's first visit to the dentist was a disaster. Grabe hawak namin sa kanya. Her first visit was way much better that the second. LOL! I hope she'll overcome her fear for everything. Matatakutin anak ko grabe.
